We’ve made a list of some things we suggest thinking about when planning to renovate your kitchen. Taking the time to consider your options and long term use will ensure you get maximum benefit from your new kitchen.
Consider a change in the appliance identity – this has a bit impact on the appearance of a kitchen. Eg freestanding stove to wall oven – more modern concept. Some dishwashers can be hidden by replacing the door panel to match cabinetry.
Indoor / outdoor flow
How well does this work for your existing kitchen? the addition of French doors to an outside deck or a breakfast bar at a sliding window can make a huge difference for catering outdoors.
Neutral colours give you more opportunities easily change the style without requiring major changes in the future.
Custom splash backs
These provide a great way to add a feature to your kitchen. Tiles and bricks can be a great way to add texture and a point of contrast, or glass/gloss panels look great in a modern minimalist design. You can also custom print your own photos or designs for something truly unique.
Tie Together House Features
If your house has unique character to it you can embrace this in many ways such as colour matching to existing features, matching timber, lighting, handles etc. We can also create new Skirting and Architrave to match existing profiles – a great way to preserve the charm of an old house.
Under bench drawers allow for more storage and easier accessibility than cupboards. For long term feasibility drawers rather than cupboards (Elderly people are always telling us how much easier it is to get pots and heavy items out of the drawers – rather than bending over and reaching to the back of cupboards.)
Hidden rubbish bin drawers are a great way to keep messy rubbish bins out of site – and are another life saver for elderly or if you have back problems – no more bending down to empty the bins.
Blenders, toasters, coffee machines etc. How often do you use these? Does it make sense for them to be out on display, or hidden away? Consider amount of use and ease of access.
Who’s kitchen is it?
If the kids have left home and you no longer need all that pantry space, why not consider a mini wine fridge or extra bench space to upgrade your coffee machine. When planning your new renovation why not ask us to quote for those extra luxuries? These can be considerably cheaper when factored into a re-design rather that trying to modify your kitchen at a later date.
